I have seen many posts online agitating that the next Pope should be from Africa. But the most surprising thing is that they kept on repeating one person’s name “Cardinal Francis Arinze”.
Dear Brethrens, the system doesn’t work like that. let me break it down.
Cardinal Francis Arinze can’t be Pope again because he is no more eligible for the seat. Then the question is “What makes a cardinals eligible for the seat?” The Answer is that a cardinal that is above 80yrs old is no more eligible and of course Cardinal Arinze is 92yrs old. I hope you understand what it means. have it in mind that this rule was not made because of cardinal Arinze rather it was made for all cardinals. If Cardinal Arinze were to be Pope, his last chance was when Pope John Paul II died which he has 70% chance of having the seat of the pope as the the Prefect of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and later the Prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.
Then Coming to Africa(black man) being the Pope; Note that the church has produced 3 African Popes by name Pope Victor I, who’s was the 14th Pope in order of papacy{189-199C
E}, pope Miltiades[Melchiades] who was the 32nd Pope in order of papacy{311-314} and Pope Gelasius I, who was the 49th Pope in order of papacy{492-496}.
Now It has been more than 1,500 years ago that Africa(Blackman) was in papacy therefore if there is any Blackman to be Pope this time around it should either Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson 76yrs old from Ghana or Cardinal Robert Sarah 79yrs old from Guinean or Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu 65yrs old from Congo.
But the point of the matter is that the church can’t just point an African man randomly and say since it’s been long a Blackman became pope therefore be the Pope, it’s not done that way. The real conclave procedure must be followed.
As Africa longs for a Pope from Africa so do Asia Longs for a Pope from Asia which in observation Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, 67yrs old from Philippines is a great contender.
